Carter & Co. is an independent publisher of bilingual fiction, illustrated children's books, and reimagined classics, built around four imprints and one editorial principle: tell the story only you can tell.
Carter & Co. 是一家独立出版社,出版双语小说、绘本童书与重新呈现的公版经典 以四个品牌为骨架,只奉行一条编辑原则:讲只有你才能讲的故事。
Four imprints, fifteen titles in print, and one principle, tell the story only you can tell.
This spring, the four imprints of Carter & Co. arrive together, though they sound, to anyone reading them side by side, like four different rooms in the same house. From Little Particle Press, two picture books about food, language, and the small confusions that turn out to be the most generous teachers. From Ten Thousand Lake, the inaugural volume of a new traditional-character series, 民國女性文庫 · the Republican-Era Women's Library, opening with the essays and short fiction of Shi Pingmei (1902-1928). From Sapientia Editions, three reissues of works that have shaped how we think about ritual, crowd, and the imagination of death. And from Velvet Thread, three early 20th-century novels by women who, in their own ways, refused to be only their own time.
We chose them because they were the books we kept thinking about between projects. Carter & Co. is built around the idea that an independent publisher is not so much a distributor as it is a careful neighbour, a small house that walks each book to the door of the reader who has been waiting for it.
The editors
A new traditional-character series gathering the writings of early twentieth-century Chinese women. The inaugural volume collects the essays, short fiction, and selected letters of 石評梅, poet, journalist, educator, dead at twenty-six, restored to the orthography in which they were first read.
